Installing a New Fan

For a room without an existing fan point, the wiring route and switch location need to be considered before installation. We discuss whether the connection will be part of a wider renovation or a separate job. The final position should also leave suitable clearance for the fan according to its instructions and the room layout.

Replacing an Existing Fan

A replacement is not always a direct swap. The new unit may differ in weight, mounting arrangement, controls or electrical requirements. We check the existing point and visible support before fitting the replacement. If the old fan has failed, diagnosis may be useful before assuming that the fan itself is the only issue.

Before the Appointment

Share photos of the ceiling, existing fan or light point, switch and new fan’s label or installation instructions if available. Mention a false ceiling, unusually high ceiling or any previous water damage. These details help us assess access and whether additional work may be needed, although the final scope depends on the on-site condition.

Do not use a fan that wobbles significantly, makes unusual electrical noises or shows heat damage at the fitting. Switch it off and arrange an inspection.
